I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO

In 2017, I worked as the freelance campaign manager for Magnolia Pictures Academy Award nominated documentary film "I Am Not Your Negro." My responsibilities included:

  • Digital influencer campaign

  • Collegiate screening and panel conversation

  • Vendor procurement and invoicing

  • Campaign reporting for studio executives

Above, is a video I pitched and produced with Mic.com. Leveraging my relationships, I reached out to Janelle Monae to tap her friends to participate in a purpose-driven video centered around the sentiment of James Baldwin's statement "I am not your Negro." Once published, the video garnered media and public attention yielding nearly 10 million views, which helped increase awareness about the film's release.

Additionally, I produced a collegiate screening event at Morehouse College in partnership with their film and African American studies departments. Following the screening, we invited a group of panelists to speak with students about their experience in modern day civil rights issues. Panelists included Civil Rights Icon Ambassador Andrew Young, Morehouse CTEMS Director Dr. Stephane Dunn, Clark Atlanta University African American Studies Professor Dr. Daniel Black, AUC Baldwin Scholar, Dr. Francine Allen and Georgia NAACP President, Dr. Francys Johnson. Janelle Monae opened up the evening with a special presentation reciting one of her favorite works from Baldwin.
